Letcher Water & Sewer seeks 35 percent rate hike

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Letcher County water bills could be going up by more than a third, if the Kentucky Public Service Commission grants a requested rate increase.

The Letcher County Water and Sewer District is asking for permission to raise its rates by more than 35 percent. That would raise the average residential bill from $39.77 to $53.91 — an increase of $14.15.

The rate increase request comes after the PSC ordered the utility to revise its rates in a separate case last year. In that case, the PSC determined Letcher County Water and Sewer does not have the financial resources necessary to comply with regulations.

At this time, the PSC has not scheduled any hearings in the rate case.
