Magoffin man arrested for child porn, sexual crimes against animals

SALYERSVILLE, Ky. — A Magoffin County man was arrested Tuesday following an undercover child pornography investigation.

Kent Simpkins, 42, of Salyersville, came under investigation by the Kentucky State Police Electronic Crime Branch after he was allegedly discovered uploading pornographic images of children on social media. KSP obtained a search warrant and raided his home on Burning Fork Road Tuesday evening, resulting in the seizure of electronic items.

In an interview during the raid, Simpkins allegedly admitted operating the account which shared the video and to seeing pornographic material involving minors shared by other users.

The police report notes that during their search, police found a video of Simpkins engaged in a sex act with his dog, and he allegedly admitted that as well.

Simpkins was arrested and charged with three counts of possessing and one count of distributing child pornography with victims under the age of 12. Those charges are punishable by 5-to-10 years in prison. He is also charged with two counts of possessing child pornography with victims over the age of 12 and one count of sexual crimes against animals. Those charges are punishable by 1-to-5 years in prison.

Simpkins is currently being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, in Paintsville.
