ZEBULON, Ky. — A man has been arrested for setting a fire in a residential rehab facility early Friday morning, with a half-dozen people inside.
Police were called to the Stepping Stone facility on Zebulon Highway, over reports that Marcus Newsome, 30, had set the building on fire just before 4 a.m.
When a state trooper arrived on the scene, he found Newsome sitting on the ground outside. Newsome reportedly admitted that he set the fire in a bathroom because he wanted to kill himself. The police report notes that he expressed regret over the six other people inside of the building when he set the fire.
One of the other residents reported waking up from the heat and smoke. That resident and another worked to get everyone out and extinguish flames.
No injuries were reported due to the fire.
Newsome was arrested and charged with first-degree arson, criminal mischief and six counts of wanton endangerment.
