Pike, Floyd schools to continue mask mandate

The Kentucky General Assembly ended the statewide school mask mandate on Thursday, but at least some local school districts plan to continue using them.

Pike County Schools and Floyd County Schools announced Friday they will continue to require masks for all students over the age of 2, as well as teachers, staff and visitors whenever the counties appear as red or orange on the state coronavirus incidence map. When the incidence rate falls lower, masks will still be encouraged, but not required.

Senate Bill 1 ended the state Department of Education’s statewide mask mandate, but allowed local districts to decide the issue for themselves.
