PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — What started as an unfounded complaint about a suspicious person at Super 8 Motel in Prestonsburg, led police to the discovery of a large amount of drugs.

When Prestonsburg Police officers went to the motel around 11 a.m. Saturday to check out the original complaint, they learned that a motel guest was refusing to leave his room after his time was up, and they were asked to remove him.
They then learned that the guest — Charles Monroe McGuire, 45, of Salyersville — was wanted on an active arrest warrant. Officers went to the room and told McGuire he was under arrest. A woman in the room then told police McGuire possibly had illegal drugs in the room.
Canine unit “Davis” was brought to check the room and led officers to a black bag under the bed which contained a quarter-pound of meth. Police also found $6,250 in cash.
McGuire was arrested and charged with meth trafficking, possession of meth and drug paraphernalia, and persistent felony offender.
