FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky’s new legislative districts appear headed for passage this weekend, and there will be some small changes to Eastern Kentucky’s senate districts.

The 31st District currently held by Sen. Phillip Wheeler will keep Pike, Martin, Lawrence and Elliott counties. However, the district will lose Morgan County and gain Johnson County.

The 29th District currently held by Sen. Johnnie Turner will not lose any territory, keeping Floyd, Knott, Letcher and Harlan counties. But it will add Bell County.

Once the new maps become official, candidates will have until Jan. 25 to file for office. That deadline would have been Jan. 7, but a bill passed by the legislature and signed into law by the governor extended it so candidates would know in which districts they reside.
