CORNETTSVILLE, Ky. — Reports of a man being held at gunpoint in Letcher County led police to make an arrest for drug trafficking.
Police responded to a pair of campers on Appletree Branch Road in Cornettsville. When a state trooper arrived, no one was being held at gunpoint, but four people were at the scene in a dispute over an attempt to evict two of them.
Once the trooper explained that the eviction would have to go through the proper channels in court, he investigated a strong smell of marijuana coming from a truck owned by 60-year-old Jerry Allen Wells.
Once the officer looked in the truck, he found a partially smoked joint in the ashtray. Then he noticed a bag containing 35 grams of meth and less than a gram of cocaine, as well as needles, spoons and bags.
Wells reportedly admitted that all of the items were his. He was arrested on charges of meth trafficking and possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
He is currently being held in the Letcher County Jail.
