PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A man charged with vehicular homicide for the 2023 death of two girls in a DUI crash is asking to have his bond reduced for a second time.

Marcus Logan Auxier, 21, of Nippa, is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, DUI, three counts of wanton endangerment, three counts of first-degree assault, and leaving the scene of an accident. He is accused of being impaired in July 2023 when he crashed his vehicle with five other people in the car.

Two of those passengers, 16-year-old Kendra Jade Moreno and 13-year-old MaKenna Reese Barnett, died of their injuries.

When Auxier was first charged, his bond was set at $1 million. However, during a hearing back in May, Judge Johnny Ray Harris agreed to lower that amount to $100,000 in cash or property.

But in a motion filed last month, his attorney, Ned Pillersdorf, says Auxier is incapable of posting that amount. Pillersdorf argues that $2,500 and a requirement of home incarceration would be more fair.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Brent Turner, however, says in a filing that $100,000 is “more than reasonable.” He adds that the victims’ families will wish to state their objection to any further reduction, as is their right under Marsy’s Law.

A hearing will be held on the request Thursday in Floyd Circuit Court.
