PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A West Virginia woman who was arrested in Pikeville for child abuse back in March has now been indicted.
Diana Willis, 26, of Logan, has been charged with first-degree abuse of a child.
Willis had taken her 4-year-old daughter to Pikeville Medical Center for a number of gastro-intestinal and respiratory illnesses. Hospital staff called police after they observed Willis repeated hitting the girl in the mouth.
Willis reportedly admitted “popping” the child in the mouth, and said she did it because the girl was crying and asking to play with markers.
She now faces 5-to-10 years in prison if convicted, although that could be enhanced to up to 20 years due to the child’s young age.
