Water and sewer rate increases delayed at least five months while PSC investigates

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Customers of Mountain Water District concerned about the utility’s request to raise water and sewer rates will not have to worry about their bills going up for the next few months.

That’s because the Kentucky Public Service Commission has suspended the request for five months while it reviews the case.

Mountain Water is seeking to increase rates in order to raise an additional $3 million. That would raise the average monthly water bill by nearly $8. The average sewer bill would go up $33, after increases are phased in over two years.

Mountain Water had asked for the rates to become effective next week, but PSC issued the delay last week. That means the earliest that new rates could become effective is Aug. 24.

No date has been set for public hearings over the requests.
