BIG STONE GAP, Va. — A former inmate has been accused in federal court of smuggling drugs into the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail at Duffield.

Robert Floyd Davis, 46, has been charged with distributing a controlled substance.

According to court records, Davis was working as part of a jail crew hanging Christmas lights at Leeman Field Park.

A statement by the ATF agent who investigated the case alleges that another inmate arranged for packages of meth and suboxone to be dropped off at the park, so that Davis could smuggle them back into the jail inside a body cavity.

Davis was charged May 10, but his case remained sealed until he was arrested last week.

He has now been ordered to be held in jail, pending the outcome of his case.
