CUMMING, Ga. — A former Pikeville High School teacher and volleyball coach has been arrested on child porn and sexual exploitation charges in Georgia.

James Andrew “Drew” Cecil, 38, of Cumming, Ga., was arrested April 21, on nine counts of possessing child pornography and one count of sexual exploitation of children. The charges came about after the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Cecil had most recently been a fourth-grade teacher at Poole’s Mill Elementary School since 2021. Five years before that, he was a teacher and volleyball coach at North Forsyth High School.

He taught and coached volleyball at Pikeville High School until 2015. WSB-TV in Atlanta reported that court records in his case note he resigned from Pikeville for “having inappropriate text conversations” with a 14-year-old girl.

There are no records that he ever faced criminal charges in Kentucky.

Mountain Top News received this statement from Pikeville Independent Schools Supt. Stephen Trimble:

“Mr. Cecil left his employment with Pikeville Independent Schools in 2015, which was prior to my arrival. We have not been contacted by anyone conducting the reported investigation, and are not aware of it being related to any events that took place in this district. However, the safety and protection of every child is always the top priority of our team, and we will cooperate as much as possible with any involved law enforcement agency if contacted or needed.”
