PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A Pike County man has been arrested in connection with a Prestonsburg home invasion while a woman was home alone with her three children.

Police were called to a home on Town Branch just after 11 p.m., Monday, over a report of a burglary in progress. When they arrived, one of the victims led them to Daniel Meade, 42, of Pikeville, who was sitting in a bedroom floor.

Police noticed that drawers, cabinets and closets had been opened throughout the home and pictures and decor had been taken off the walls.

The woman living in the home told police she had put her children to bed and went to sleep herself, when she woke up to the sounds of someone rummaging through the kitchen. She called out to the person in the kitchen but didn’t recognize the voice that responded, so she called 911 to report someone in her home.

The man who lives at the residence returned home from work about that time and, after a brief altercation, was able to restrain Meade until police arrived.

Meade was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, a felony punishable by 5-to-10 years in prison. He is being held on a $10,000 cash bond.
