PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison and nearly 9-million dollars in financial penalties, after being found guilty of fraud late last year.
Back in November, a jury found Eugene Sisco III, 36, of Pikeville, guilty of health care fraud and wire fraud. The charges were the result of a pair of schemes to make Medicaid patients at his drug treatment clinics pay $200 a month or more for services already paid by Medicaid, and to bill the government for unnecessary drug screens.
One bombshell to emerge during his sentencing hearing Tuesday was that he, his wife and son attended last month’s Super Bowl in Los Angeles, despite telling probation officers they only had $1,500 in their account. Despite that, the judge refused to find Sisco had obstructed authorities, which could have made his sentence longer.
In addition to his prison sentence, Sisco was ordered to forfeit $3.2 million to the government. He also must pay $3.6 million to more than 1,700 former clients who were victims of the cash payment scheme and $2 million to Medicaid for the unnecessary drug screens.
Sisco was taken into custody immediately following Tuesday’s hearing. With credit for good time, he could be freed in nine years.
