Six people now charged following brawl in stands of high school soccer game

APPALACHIA, Va. — A brawl between fans at a high school soccer game in Wise County has resulted in six people facing criminal charges.

It happened May 15, at a game in Appalachia between Union and Ridgeview high schools.

Donald Guerrant, 24, of Wise, was arrested soon after and charged with assault and battery.

Following an investigation into the incident, the Wise County Sheriff’s Office charged five more people with disorderly conduct. They include John “Bryce” Guerrant, 21, of Big Stone Gap; James D. Lambert, 49, of Clintwood; Michael Steele, 45, of Clintwood; Kevin Rose, 51, of Clintwood; and Steva Rose, 44, of Clintwood.

The melee resulted in several people being taken to the hospital by ambulance, including fight participants and innocent bystanders.

“We take all incidents involving violence seriously and will continue to work to maintain the safety and security of our community,” the Wise County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

The sheriff’s office said Wise County Schools is taking steps to address the situation and working to ensure public safety.
