Woman accused of hitting pedestrian while DUI

EASTERN, Ky. — A Letcher County woman has been arrested after she allegedly struck a pedestrian along a Floyd County highway while driving under the influence.

It happened Dec. 22, along Route 680 near Eastern. A caller reported that the driver, later identified as Kaye Lynn Fox, 55, of Jenkins, was swerving all over the road and then appeared to hit something on the shoulder. The caller stopped and learned that the driver had hit a pedestrian, identified as Charles Castle.

Castle had to be airlifted to an area hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

When questioned by police, Fox said she was unsure what happened because she was tending to a 4-year-old in the back seat when Castle was hit.

The officer noted that she had slurred speech and glassy eyes, and she reportedly failed a field sobriety test. Police say she then admitted to taking suboxone and half of a Neurontin tablet.

Police found a syringe in the car and numerous types of pills in her purse.

Fox was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia.
