PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A call to police reporting a home invasion on Monday evening ended up sending the occupants of the home to jail.

A Pikeville Police officer responded to an apartment on Fife Fork, reporting that several men were trying to force their way inside.

When the officer arrived, he found no one outside. He then knocked on the door and announced himself as a police officer, only to be told, “No, you’re not.” He tried again, and this time the door opened, but it was quickly slammed shut once the occupants saw the officer.

By this time, a second officer arrived on the scene and was able to get the occupants to open up.

The occupants — identified as 41-year-old David Lovins of Pikeville and 37-year-old Alesha Wagers of London — then told police that several men tried to pry open the apartment door with tools, but police could find no damage to the door or door frame.

Lovins and Wagers were arrested and charged with falsely reporting an incident.
