FRANKFORT, Ky. — Election Day 2023 is now in the books, and Republicans continued their dominance at the Kentucky ballot box, with one notable exception.
Gov. Andy Beshear earned another four years in office, defeating his Republican challenger, Attorney General Daniel Cameron, by a 53-47 margin.
That’s far different from his first win four years ago, when he defeated former Gov. Matt Bevin by just 5,000 votes.
The White House revealed Tuesday night that President Joe Biden called Beshear to congratulate him on his win.
That was the one bright spot for Democrats, as Republicans swept the rest of the statewide offices. That means Secretary of State Michael Adams will serve a second term in office, and Prestonsburg’s Allison Ball will move from the treasurer’s office to the state auditor’s office.
Also, Russell Coleman will be attorney general, Mark Metcalf will be treasurer, and Jonathan Shell will be agriculture commissioner.
In Pike County, voters in Coal Run approved alcohol sales and voters in the Aflex and Old Pond precincts approved alcohol sales at distilleries. Pike County voters also elected to return to a magisterial form of government, instead of the current commissioner form.
