
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — The University of Pikeville and the city of Pikeville will host a brunch in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. this weekend.
The MLK “Dreams in Motion” celebration brunch will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 21, in Booth Auditorium.
“MLK day continues to be an important commemorative moment for the university and the community,” UPike’s director of diversity and international affairs, Katrina Rugless, said. “The brunch will provide an opportunity for each of us to learn, grow and continue the work of Dr. King in our own small way.”
The brunch will include panel discussions and a number of speakers, including:
- Lisa Sizemore, City of Pikeville business retention and expansion manager
- Keisha Hunt-Eary, diversity liaison at Southeastern Kentucky Community and Technical College
- Kevin Harrison, interim director of diversity at Big Sandy Community and Technical College
- Robert Musick, chaplain and faculty member at UPike
- Rachel Breckenridge, faculty member at UPike
- Student leaders from the UPike Diversity Leadership Academy, the Kentucky College of Optometry and the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine Diversity Committees.
The brunch will be followed by a doubleheader basketball game.
