STOPOVER, Ky. — A Pike County man faces up to 20 years in prison, after a woman was shot in the leg.

Police were called to a home at Stopover after a neighbor reported hearing gunshots and screaming from a home across the street. They also received a call from the victim, who they met at a Phelps gas station, where she was waiting for an ambulance.

When police interviewed the woman, she had a gunshot in her right leg and a large cut on her arm. She told police that Eddie Dean Ferrell, 52, had come home and began hitting her, accusing her of stealing. She said he then went to the garage and grabbed a gun, which he fired at her and others several times.

The officer then went to the home and spoke to Ferrell, who admitted shooting his gun several times.

He was taken into custody and charged with first-degree assault and wanton endangerment, as well as possession of meth, after police reported finding drugs in his pocket when arresting him.

He is being held in the Pike County Detention Center.
