PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A Floyd County woman faces multiple felony charges, after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase Wednesday night through Prestonsburg.

A Prestonsburg Police officer spotted Sabrina Howell, 38, of Martin, driving a Chevy Silverado through Lancer in the wrong lane of Route 1428. He got behind her to pull her over, but wrote in his report that she sped away instead.

Other officers joined in the pursuit, and Howell allegedly passed a vehicle illegally and ran a red light in town in an attempt to get away. Once they reached Route 321, she was clocked driving 101 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Police say she would also slam on her brakes in an attempt to cause a crash whenever they followed her closely.

The chase finally ended in a gas station parking lot at the junction of Route 3. Police found open alcoholic beverages in the car, along with a handgun, despite Howell having a previous felony conviction.

She was arrested and charged with fleeing police, multiple counts of wanton endangerment of police officers and others, and a long list of traffic violations. The arrest also allowed police to serve her with a warrant after she was indicted for meth trafficking and persistent felony offender in October of 2022.

Howell is expected to appear in court Monday.

A passenger in Howell’s car was also arrested and charged with alcohol intoxication.
